Cowper, William

Letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury, with copy of meeting minute, Sydney Diocesan Committee for the Societies for Promoting Christian Knowledge and the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts

Cover letter from Broughton to the Archbishop of Canterbury, John Bird Sumner, on the question of the Roman Catholic Church's jurisdiction. Text of meeting minute 12th March 1851, Sydney Diocesan Committee for the Societies for Promoting Christian Knowledge and the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, expressing opposition to the Roman Catholic Church dividing England into ecclesiastical sees. Reinstates Broughton's assertion that the Bishop of Rome has no authority in the Diocese of Australia.
